TL;DR: Orijen Guardian 8 Senior Dry Cat Food is a protein-forward kibble made with 90% animal ingredients, using chicken and fish as the protein sources, with added joint-supportive nutrients. It is formulated for senior cats and the owners who want a dense, animal-ingredient-rich diet that supports mobility and everyday vitality in mature cats.

Nutritional priorities shift as cats age: lean muscle maintenance, joint comfort, and gentler digestion all matter more than they did at three years old. This Orijen senior cat food is built around 90% animal ingredients to keep protein density high while supporting those needs.

What makes Guardian 8 different for senior cats?

The recipe pairs chicken and fish protein with added glucosamine and chondroitin in a single dry formula. Taurine is included to support heart and cognitive function, alongside the joint-supportive nutrients.

Who is it for?

Orijen Guardian 8 Senior Dry Cat Food suits mature cats whose owners want high animal-protein content with built-in joint support. It works for indoor and active seniors alike, either as a main diet or as one recipe in a rotation.

How much should you feed?

Serve as a complete daily food for senior cats, following the Orijen cat food feeding guide printed on the bag for your cat's weight and activity level. Because the recipe is protein-dense, portions may be smaller than you're used to with lower-protein kibble.

Feeding & use

Transition gradually over 7–10 days, mixing increasing amounts of Guardian 8 with your cat's current food until the switch is complete. Gradual changeovers are easier on mature digestive systems.

Reseal the bag tightly after each use and store it in a cool, dry place to preserve freshness and palatability. Always provide fresh, clean water alongside dry food. The 4 lb size is a sensible match for single-cat households or rotation feeders who prefer to finish a bag quickly.
