So what are Chakras? They are an ancient energy system that originated in India. They were first mentioned in the Vedas, ancient sacred texts of spiritual knowledge dating from 1500 to 1000 BC.

Chakra means “wheel” and refers to energy points in your body. Each Chakra corresponds to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body.

These wheels are spinning disks of energy that should stay open and aligned for optimal health of the physical, emotional, and spiritual body. 

Some say there are actually a total of 114 different Chakras, but there are seven main Chakras that run along your spine that are most commonly referred to. 

Each of these seven main Chakras has a corresponding name, color, specific area of the spine from the sacrum to the crown of the head, and health focus.

Root: located at the base of the spine, represented by the colour red. Relates to your physical identity, security, and grounding.

Crystals: Red Jasper or Black Tourmaline.

Sacral: located just below the belly button, represented by the colour orange. Relates to your sexuality, pleasures, emotions, and creative expressions. 

Crystals: Carnelian, or Moonstone.

Solar Plexus: located near the upper abdomen, represented by the colour yellow. Relates to your self-esteem, joy, confidence, security of your identity. 

Crystals: Sunstone, or Citrine.

Heart: located in the centre of the chest, represented by the colour green. Relates to love, compassion, selflessness, and our ability to give and receive.

Crystals: Rose Quartz, or Unakite.

Throat: located in the throat, represented by the colour blue. Relates to speaking and seeking truth, and all methods of communication and expression.

Crystals: Blue Calcite, or Chrysocolla.

Third Eye: located between the eyes, represented by the colour indigo. Relates to your intuition, imagination, wisdom, conscience, and higher consciousness.

Crystals: Lapis Lazuli, or Labradorite.

Crown: located at the “crown” of your head, represented by the colour violet or white. Known as the “bridge to the cosmos”, the most spiritual in nature of all seven chakras. Relates to the individual's center of spirit, enlightenment, wisdom, universal consciousness, and connection to higher guidance.
