Crokinole or Carrom-type games are often referred to as Pichenotte in French, meaning "flick". Pichenotte game rings are flat and have a hole in the middle, making them lighter and easier to flick. These wooden pichenotte / carrom game rings are made of hard maple, which does not dent upon impact, and have good paint coverage with a gloss finish on top to protect the paint from chipping. Each ring colour plays a different role within pichenotte and carrom. The purple and walnut rings are the pichenotte ladies / carrom men, the black ring is the queen, the white ring is the king, and the natural rings are the dogs / striker.
