They keep melody in the forefront of the entire album, with the title track also rich in classic keyboard tone and vocal harmonies but more subtle in its delivery, showing their comprehension of knowing when less is more. The chorus of “Baggage” is an especially fine example of this, where a single-note guitar part accompanies Ross’ heavily emotional delivery of “You and I’ve got too much baggage\/Let’s pretend that they’re gifts we’ve sent us\/But they’re wrapped so tight we can’t open up.” On “Uninvited” the drums give the semblance of an off-kilter time signature but throb along in unison with the synth part, and “Hemorragic Kills” 7\/4 time signature propels an intricate picked guitar section that leads into a vocally haunting climax.
