He pushes his instrument (and koto, which he also plays) into territory where it's not often found, such as on "Tail Wag Dog Jig (Parts 1 & 2)," which includes singing heavily influenced by Finnish group Värttinä. By taking the banjo out of its normal context and placing it next to instruments from other cultures (and the banjo's origins are African), Satake gives himself a freedom to create unusual sounds, and with support from talent like fiddler Johnny Cunningham and frame drummer Glen Velez, he goes anywhere and everywhere his imagination can carry him. Add to that a remarkably impressive technique, and you have a winner here. --Chris Nickson

UPC: 616498100322

EAN: 0616498100322

Languages: English

Binding: Audio CD

Item Condition: New
