Senneh rug, also spelled Senna or Sehna, is a handwoven floor covering made by Kurds in or near Senneh (now more properly Sanandaj) in western Iran. Senneh pile rugs and kilims are prized for their delicate patterning and colouring, as well as their fine weave. They are by far the most refined of Kurdish rugs. The designs typically include some sort of repeat pattern, or diaper, such as the herti, in which a diamond lattice pattern peeps through a tangle of blossoms and leaves, or intricate versions of the boteh, a leaf with a curling tip. A medallion scheme may include a hexagonal centrepiece and straight-arched ends, or the entire field may display such a pattern.
